Alberta Real Estate school has identified some real struggle from the students that attempt to give the Alberta Real Estate Exams. We have thus, come up with a few Important and Effective Exam Day Tips that you can follow to ease out the stress on the day of the exam.
Let’s have a look –
To list a few, below are some of the most effective Exam Tips that we discussed.
1. Sleep Well
Rather than counting the exam day as the final day to prepare for the exam writing, count it from a day prior to that. If you are writing your exam tomorrow, you need to make sure that you get a good night’s sleep a night before writing the exam. It’s very important that you go into the exam hall well rested. It will help you to focus thoroughly on the exam questions and help you recall your study materials faster. We suggest not to cram too much a night before the exam because that is not going to help. This is one of the most important points which will help you manage your exam stress effectively.
2. Have Proper Breakfast
Make sure you have a proper healthy breakfast on the day of your exam. It is not advised to write an exam on a hungry stomach. Hunger can deviate your focus from the exam. Also, an empty stomach can make your more stressful and anxious in situations such as exam writing. A good breakfast can carry you through the long exam duration and will give your brain the energy to focus on the exam. Also, make sure not to eat too heavy of a breakfast, or you may feel sleepy and lethargic. In stead, a light, healthy and mindful breakfast can do the job.
3. Stay Hydrated
Water is just as important as food. In fact, it can be more important than food on many grounds. We advice to carry a bottle of water to the exam hall as well. So that you have water at small intervals. This will get your brain the required amount of oxygen to function on regular levels. During the exam, you have to make sure you do everything that helps you keep your brain active, because that is one thing you need the most.
4. Less Caffeine
Caffeine is the exact opposite of Water. As much as your body needs the water, it literally does not need Caffeine at all. We all love caffeine, and it tempts to have more of it when we are stressed. Caffeine dehydrates our body and increases our stress levels and heart rate. To the worse, it can make you jittery. It is advised to stay away from caffeine or at least have lesser caffeine so that you remain calm and focused during the exam.
5. Arrive Early
It is true when somebody quoted that – An Early Bird gets the Worm. In times of reaching the exam centre, make sure you are ready before the dictated time. You are aware of all the steps you need to reach the exam venue. The last thing you want to do is reach the exam hall late and lose your precious exam time. Though, Online Exams can make it easier for students if they are giving the exam from their choice of place, it is still necessary, to be on the spot before time. This way you are not stressed about losing the exam time if there is any confusion or bad luck on the way.
6. Have your Paperwork Ready
Whether it is an Online Exam or an Offline Exam, you are required to show your Personal Identification Documents to confirm your identity when attempting the RECA Exam. Prepare your Identification documents well in advance to present them whenever you are asked to. Losing a chance to write your exam just because you were not ready with appropriate documentation is something no one wants to do. You can use your – Driving License, Provincial ID Card, PR Card, Passport, or Citizenship Card as your Personal Identification Document.
7. Read All the Instructions Carefully
Any Exam can come with a Pre-set of Rules and Instructions that needs to be followed in order to give the exam legally. Note and follow the Pre-Exam Instructions carefully. It is mandatory to abide by the set guidelines so make sure they are followed accurately. Any unethical, lousy, or unprofessional behavior can result in serious penalties and fines.

To list a few, below are some of the most effective Exam Tips that we discussed.
1. Know What to Expect on the Exam
One of the most important point here is know what to expect on the exam. This is very crucial as it gives you an understanding on what you will see on the exam as well as how you will see it. When it comes to RECA’s Real Estate Exams in Alberta, there are certain things to keep in mind. They are:
Computer-based Exam: Alberta’s Real Estate Exams are completely computer-based. There is no need to write the exams through hands. All the exams are online and are submitted on a Computer at the Exam Centre.
Multiple-Choice Exam: All Questions on the exam are MCQs i.e., Multiple Choice Questions. You don’t have to type anything on the Exam. All you need to do is select the right option from a given set of options with the question.
Average No. of Questions:The average number of questions you can expect in any Real Estate Exam in Alberta can go between the range of 100 to 145 Questions.
Passing Marks:To pass the Alberta Real Estate Exams, you will need a minimum 70% of correct answers.
Exam Duration: The general duration of all the Alberta Real Estate Exams is 3 hours.
2. Good Study Environment
It is one of the most important exam preparation tips for any type of exam. We suggest having a set up that is similar to the exam set up that you are preparing to attempt for. Nicely lit, quiet, computer based set up which helps you to prepare for practice tests that give you a similar feel of giving an actual exam. Try not to get distracted from other things while preparing in the study environment. For example, family members or friends, pets, outside noise, unnecessary stuff lying around – all of these are common distractions. Applying this tactic can help you practice the concepts with focus as well as get used to the exam environment. So that on the actual exam day, you are not overwhelmed or stressed due to the exam set up or just the idea of attempting the exam. This tactic is proved to be very useful in real terms.
3. Take Personal Notes
Taking Personal Notes can be really helpful memorizing strategy for some. But apart from that, when we prepare personal notes, we can gauge our understanding of the concept and get a clear idea of the actual concept rather than just memorizing words from the materials.
Our Customized and Summarized Notes are the most effective to help you focus on the Important Topics of the Materials. Check them out HERE.
4. Time Management
This is the most common and the most difficult of all. Time Management is although a very simple concept. However, it is difficult for most of the people. The key point here is to plan according to the time available for each of the course. According to the updated Course Schedule by RECA, you have only 12 months to complete your 2 Real Estate Courses which leaves you with a period of 6 months for each course. Some simple steps that can prove as effective exam preparation tips for you:
Set SMART Goals: Start with creating aS.M.A.R.T (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic, Time-bound) Goal. This will not only help you to make smarter goals but will breakdown it into smaller parts that make it more sensible.
Create a Schedule: Having a schedule helps you plan your day effectively. Plus, you can function with time. You don’t have to stop and think what to do next. It creates a fixed pattern which can become a habit in no time if you follow it thoroughly.
Discipline: The last but the most important thing in time management is discipline. Everyone creates goals and schedules strategies to achieve them. But the one thing they miss out is consistency. You have to follow your schedule sincerely to make a difference.
Some effective principles of Time Management which improves productivity can include the following – ThePomodoro Technique,The80-20 Principle, The Productivity Rule of 3, The Cognitive Behavioral Therapy Technique of 2 Min, and many more.
5. Take Frequent Breaks
Sometimes, too much pressure and efforts can backfire. Studies have found that studying for long hours without taking any breaks does not let the brain retain as much information as it could. The key here is to set a perfect balance. Studying too little or too much can create pressure or stress which are both anti-productive. To strike a balance, you must study thoroughly for a significant period (say, an hour) and then take a short break (say, 15 min) to relax and re-energize your mind.
6. Stay Hydrated
Whether it is an Online Exam or an Offline Exam, you are required to show your Personal Identification Documents to confirm your identity when attempting the RECA Exam. Water is very important for brain functioning. It brings more oxygen for the brain making it active and healthy. Our body is developed in such a way that it needs water at small intervals, especially it is working. Now, studying requires a lot of efforts from the brain. It is also crucial to have enough water as per the location you are in. For eg, Alberta has a dry weather and thus it is necessary to have a good count of water intake for your body. Otherwise, the repercussions can seriously affect your overall health. It is not directly related to exam preparation but it is an important point to maintain a good physiology.
7. Get Enough Sleep
Sleep is again a very important element just like water. One must take optimum care of body for good results. Your efforts will count in for the results. And to put maximum efforts, you should be in a good physiological state to give your best shot every time you are making efforts. 100% efforts will show 100% results. Optimum sleep improves our brain’s retention power. Thus, make sure to maintain a stable and healthy schedule regularly.
8. Practice, Practice & Practice
It’s simple – The more you practice, the more you get better. When you are preparing for an exam, you are preparing for an uncertain test. The most efficient way to practice here is prepare your best and take mock tests as much as often to test your retention skills and revise the information you have memorized. If you are directly going to the exam without any test practice, you can get overwhelmed with the fear as your mind is not trained to give a test on the study topics you prepared. Make yourself familiar with the test environment, so that it is easy for you to go through the exam mentally.
9. Reward Yourself
Rewarding yourself for the efforts you have made is very important. It gives you confidence, self trust, and self-love — all the things that you need to pass an exam. Your attitude and perspective should be in place to achieve a goal. This is something most people ignore and thus, they lose something that they could easily achieve. The confidence and trust from small accomplishments can actually help you gain confidence for the biggest goals.
10. Get Help!
It is important to understand that it is not necessary to do it all on your own. Surely, you have to try your best. But when you need help, be realistic, be sensible. Asking for help when you need is a smart and courageous move. When it comes to preparing for the RECA Exams, you have don’t just have to pass the exams, you have to understand the real estate concepts thoroughly enough that you are able to help buyers make a correct decision. A Real Estate Agent has huge responsibilities that should be taken care of precisely. Thus, when you are preparing to be one, be sure you get the right sources of help from industry experts who knows the industry.
These are some of the best and the most effective Exam Preparation Tips that you can adopt. These tips will help you give your Real Estate Exams Stress Free and make sure you Pass your Real Estate Exams in the very first attempt!

To pass the Alberta Real Estate Exam in the first attempt is not everybody’s cup of tea. RECA (The Real Estate Council of Alberta) has laid down strict guidelines to be followed in order to appear for the exam and remain an eligible candidate. To understand the RECA Exam structure, there are a few focal points that must keep in mind. These tips can help you manage your real estate study guide and thus, come through the test with flying colors.
Understand the Exam Format
Aspirants applying for Alberta Real Estate Exam to become successful Real Estate Agents should understand how the exam structure goes and what is the whole process.
Online:
First thing you want to do when it comes to studying for the exam is to Understand the Exam Format. This step is very important because it will help you to become more efficient when you go to study for your exam. What you want to remember is that it is a computer-based exam, so you are not really writing any essays or anything.
When you go to the examination center, they will give you some paper and a pencil to write notes if you need to. But overall, you are not writing anything, it is all online.
Number of Questions:
You will have anywhere from 90 to 140 exam questions, depending on what exam you’re writing. If you are writing the fundamentals of real estate exam, there are 140 questions.
If you are writing residential exam, you will see 100 questions on the exam. If you are writing a commercial exam, you’ll have 90 questions. So, it really depends on what exam you are writing, but approximately 90 to about 140 questions is what you will see on the exam.
Minimum Passing Grade:
Regardless of what exam you’re writing, you do need a 70% to pass the Alberta Real Estate Exam, so you have to make sure you get more than 70% on your exam.
Question Structure:
All the questions on the exam will be multiple-choice questions, so you really don’t need to really memorize a ton of stuff, because everything will be in front of you, and you also don’t need to really write long essays, so multiple-choice questions are simpler to answer than essay questions, so we have a bit of an advantage there.
Create a Study Plan
Create a concrete Study Planand understand the total content that would be required to memorize for your Alberta Real Estate Exam. And different things you want to keep in mind, or different elements of a study plan that you want to pay attention to, would be first to create a study schedule. Make sure you set time aside in your schedule to study.
All of us are busy, you may have a full-time job, a family, other activities that you need to participate in, so make sure you do set aside a certain amount of time, whether that’s every evening or it’s on the weekends, but make sure you set aside time that is in your calendar in order to study.
Otherwise, you will run out of time in the end, and you’ll be scrambling to study or go through all the material at the very end, and then it becomes very difficult to do. Make sure you create a study schedule, and you stick to it.
Break it down into Smaller Steps
Make sure you break down this goal to pass the Alberta real estate exam into smaller steps. So, you want to look at how many units you have and how much time you are going to spend per unit in order to do this, in order to finish all the material.
Again, if you leave it all to the end, it will become very difficult to cram everything. You will not understand the concepts and you’ll be trying to memorize stuff, so we do not want to be in that situation, or I have found that people run out of time, and then they have to pay again to take the course.
Set Realistic Goals
If you think you can go through the entire unit in a day, that will be hard to do. So, it is best to, again, break it down into smaller chunks and make sure you’re setting realistic goals for yourself in order to achieve this.
Understand the Distribution of Marks
Next thing you want to do is to make sure you understand the marks distribution. All the units are not weighted equally. Some of the units will have a very small percentage of marks on the exam, others will be heavy units where you have a ton of stuff to study, so I highly recommend before you start studying, you look at your mark distribution, you will find this in your textbook.
So go through the exam distribution, and then look at how much time you need to put towards each unit. For example, in the fundamentals of the real estate exam, the first unit is only worth three marks. That means that that is not a priority. Understand the Exam Weightage given by RECA to the topics based on the units from each of the Real Estate Courses.
We need to prioritize the stuff that is weighted heavier, so make sure you look at your exam distribution, and you are allocating the appropriate amount of time to each unit based on the percentage weightage it is allocated in the exam.
Understand the Concepts
Next, you want to make sure you understand the concepts. It is not important to memorize everything. It is a multiple-choice exam. So, there is no need to memorize everything because things will be in front of us, they will ask us a question, and the options will be in front of us. But what we do want to do is understand the key concepts, because once you understand the key concepts, you will have a much easier time answering the questions.
So, make sure you understand the concepts and kind of stay away from trying to memorize stuff. There are a couple of different types of questions that you will see on the exam.
Most of the exam will be around Situational Questions, also called scenario type questions, where they will give you a scenario, and then based on that, you will have to answer the question. This is where your understanding of the concept really pays off. Once you understand the concept, you can then look at your scenario and extract the key element from that. All the names and places don’t really make that much of a difference, but go to the heart of the problem, look at what exactly are they asking you.
But then, how do you prepare yourself for the scenario questions?
Go through all the Examples
The best thing to do here will be to go through all the examples. There are a lot of examples that they provide you in the textbook, make sure you go through these examples, all the examples are in a box.
So, when you look at your book, you will see there are several boxes there. And each example will relate to the concept that they’re talking about, so make sure you read through all your examples, and you understand the concepts related to that, because a lot of times they will have questions that will be similar to the examples that they have provided in the book.
Now they may change the names and places, however, the heart of the problem is still the same, so make sure you go through and read all the examples.
Go through each of the Unit Quizzes
Next thing is to make sure you go through unit quizzes. Unit quizzes are very important because they really help you understand the concepts.
Now, they do not have a ton of scenario questions, but there are scenario questions that you can learn from the quizzes, but they really help you prepare the concepts.
Another type of questions that you will see on the exam will be Definition-based Questions. Here, either they are looking for a definition of a term, or they will give you a definition, and they will ask you, what term does this definition describe?
Key Terms
Make sure that you understand your key terms like real property, real estate, GDP, condominium plan, different types of condominiums, that type of stuff. So, to answer the definition-based questions, we really want to understand the key terms.
There is a glossary at the end of the book that you can go to, and you can read through that glossary and make sure you understand the terms.
On the other hand, Alberta Real Estate School helps you understand the Real Estate Terminology and Regulatory Bodies that help you assist in understanding the Alberta Real Estate Market.
Unit Activities
It’s also important to go through the unit activities. Unit activities are set up to help you understand the definition-based questions, especially the fill in the blanks type of activities.
These activities are great because they will help you understand the key term and learn the definition of this. Now, there are not any fill in the blank type of questions on the exam, but again, we are learning the key terms here.
With Alberta Real Estate School, we can guide you with our extensive list of Mock Questions and Practical help for Unit Quiz. Get to know more about ourReal Estate Tutoring Services.
Make Notes
And last of all, make sure you take notes as you are going through your material, because we do not want to spend too much time going through every single page of the textbook, so it will be important for you to extract the key concepts and key terms that you want to learn.
And when it is time to prepare for the exam, you’re only going through your notes, and you don’t have to go through the entire book again.
